March 31, 2007, Kazu and I got married!

Here's us with our groomsmen, bridesmaids, and flower girl. From left to right standing, it's Khang Le, Becky Cloonan, Cynthea Mazur, John Bitterolf, me, Kazu, Chris Killian, Jen Quick, Ben Zhu, and Christi Bertelsen.  Kneeling on the floor are my brother Tim, flower girl Winter McCloud, and Kazu's brother Taka.

Me and my awesome bridesmaids!  And... Alessandro popping up in the background.  The two at the bottom are Becky and Jen, two in the back are Cynthea and Christi.  I had no idea the purpose of bridesmaids or what their roles are (I was seriously 100% clueless about everything that had to do with weddings before this!), but they all helped me tremendously and took their roles with seriousness and appreciation.  I'm so grateful for their friendship, you girls are the best!  I hope we grow together for the rest of our lives.

When Kazu and I were trying to think of who could officiate at our wedding about a year and a half ago, I'd mentioned Scott McCloud in jest.  Kazu's eyes lit up... and we went for it.  I'm so so grateful that Scott was there to officiate.  He had a wonderful, heartfelt speech prepared that was exactly what a non-religious person who loves science like myself would want to hear.  I may not be religious, but I'm a very spiritual person so  having someone special to marry us was the best wedding gift I could ask for.  I can't thank Scott and his family enough!  Besides, it was his book "Understanding Comics" that got me really serious about making comics in the first place, and it was through comics that I first met Kazu.  See?  It's all connected.

Nelson, Allen, and Alisa enjoy the 80 degree sun in the above photo.  I will see y'all next time I'm in the big apple!

The caterers provided tables and umbrellas as well as awesome food.  If anyone's having a big party you should definitely go with them!  They were totally affordable, everyone cleaned their plates, and the staff is really chill.  lascarisdeli.com!  Here John, Jen, and Vera chat it up.

The wedding cake was also delicious - vanilla cake with layers of fresh strawberries and cream.  Heh heh~

My brother, Tim.  He gave the most awesome and touching speech for the toasting session.  There wasn't a dry eye in the house, especially mine.  I'm so lucky to have him as a brother!

The party took place at Ben's house.  Him and his Mom Polly are two of the most generous people I've ever met.  I feel so lucky to have gotten to know him over the past two years.  Kazu and I see him almost every day, and each time we do it's a joy.  A day isn't truly satisfying if we don't get to see Brother Ben!

Yes, Dusty was there.  He's growing super fast!  You guys remember dusty when he was a wee pup, right?  These days he's looking more and more like a bear-fox.

During the wedding Shadi, Jamie, and Chris played some live songs for us.  Including a sweet bluegrassy tune that got us all in the mood for a hoe-down!

After all the dancing, crying, laughing, and eating of cake the wedding was officially over.  Time to start throwing girls in the pool!  Kazu and I had no idea Alessandro was such a wild man!  Poor Jen!  Vera and Clio got dunked, too.

After the dunking the sun started to set.  Some guests left, some stayed. You know how sometimes you meet someone for the first time and you can tell you will become good friends?  Well here are two of those people for us, Yasmine and Todd.  They are a power couple!  Yasmine volunteered to be the official photographer, so her and Todd had a very strong presence throughout the day.  Thank you both for being such cheerful and level-headed folks while Kazu and I ran around!  We agreed that seeing your faces was reassuring amongst all the hustle and bustle.

A lot of people stuck around for the afterparty, which was basically more hanging out and playing games (plus twenty pizzas, of which only one slice was left!).  Warioware on the Wii was especially popular, as you can see in this pic of Winter and company.

After pizza and much merriment, we sent the last guests home with flowers in tow.  Alessandro and Phil, the two ladies-man men!

The next day we had breakfast at the local diner with a few of the guests still in town.  Jen and Vera made these adorable bunny versions of me and Kazu, which my Mom had a hard time parting with!  The bunnies now have a cozy home on our studio bookshelf looking cute.  It was nice to see my Mom being so relaxed after all her hard work preparing the decorations, flower arrangements, and manicures for me and the bridesmaids.  She's a SuperMom!

And I guess that's that.  It was the best day of my life, full of growth, memories, and love.  The best part, though, are the years to come with my new husband and new family!
